Fun Coast Mayors’ Boss of Sauce Competition

Deltona Mayor John Masiarczyk was crowned “Boss of Sauce” as a result of his first-place showing in a contest hosted by the Daytona State College Foundation. The competition was the first annual event featuring Volusia and Flagler county mayors and their barbecue sauces or sauces entered by a restaurant or constituent from their city.  Mayors from Daytona Beach, Deltona, Holly Hill, Ponce Inlet and South Daytona each accepted the challenge.  A panel of BBQ sauce connoisseurs and experts served as judges for the event.

The winner of the People’s Choice Award was won by Mayor George Locke III of South Daytona.  The winning sauce “Kati’s Special Sauce,” was prepared by Kati Hall, daughter of Police Chief Bill Hall.

The BBQ competition was created as a creative friend-raiser and fundraiser for the Daytona State College Foundation. Following the competition, the L. Gale Lemerand Entrepreneurial Speaker Series sponsored an inspiring speaker.  Mr. Dave Anderson of Famous Dave’s of America BBQ restaurant’s spoke to students and other guests totaling about 300.  Mr. Anderson shared valuable insight regarding business and life lessons during the Entrepreneurial Speaker Series program.

The Boss of Sauce received trophies and a case of his winning sauce privately bottled by Captain’s Foods in Edgewater, FL.
